I live in a 3 bed/2 bath, 1440 sq ft manufactured home that was built in 1980. A contractor beefed up the walls, put a new roof on, and did other tasks before we moved in so it's still in pretty good shape. However, with 5 kids we are running out of space. My question is if it would be a good idea to add-on to the back of this home. We would like to dig out a basement under the addition and leave the original house with it's crawl space in tact. Has anyone had experience with this? Would the addition cause problems with this old manufactured home? How closely could we dig to the original foundation? I'd hate to spend this money on a much needed addition only to have the old house fall apart. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks!
