I have designed a couple of costs for myself, my kids, and a friend, all using elfa from The Container Store. The important thing is to know what you want to store, and how you want to store it. Folded? Hanging? On shelves? On hooks? And then, measure your own height and the length of your hanging clothes, and know if you want to put anything under them like laundry baskets or shoes. Then, head to the container store website. Tip: they have a 25% sale on shelving in August, and 33% sale on elfa in winter.

Elfa is not hard to install, you need a level, tape measure,pencil, drill and a screwdriver, preferably a power screwdriver.

we use a small (8'x7'??) room as our master closet. Installed the ClosetMaid ShelfTrack from Home Depot. Had better reviews than Ikea's version, and Home Depot is much closer (and same product is available at amazon.) I got the tan (platinum they might call it) color, not white. Its a wire product. Very easy to install DIY.
