What is the best way to add curtains to these windows with that half window there without having it look weird

What half window? Do you mean the small window? If so, you can hang the same curtains on it and mount the rod at the same place as the door. Or you can hang a roman in the same fabric as the curtains on the door.

Speaking of the door, the rod should be extended out further and you should have wider panels or more than one, if readymade. They're a bit too skimpy.

Hi I am moving into this place next month! So I would raise the rod up higher and I need 4 curtains right? Or does the half window only need one?

FYI, it's a run of the mill double hung window, not a half window. : )

Anyways, it needs two panels, one for each side. You could hang one, but two will always look better.

The rod could go higher or stay where it's at. If you're getting readymades, check the length first and make sure they will touch or almost touch the floor. You don't want short, high water pants curtains. All the windows in the room should have the rod mounted at the same height if possible.

As for how many, I used to make custom so I measured and decided the width on that. You want it to be at least twice the width of the rod, without it looking like a sheet when closed. If you're always leaving them open, then at least two each side.

I like almost all the advice in this graphic except the suggestion about pooling on the floor. High, full, and wide looks great. I don't like the look of the rod crammed against the ceiling.

Keep in mind that unless you are going custom you have to work with stock curtain sizes. Measure for length from the floor to a spot halfway between the wall and the ceiling. If you need to add some length to a stock curtain you can use curtain rings.

Thanks for the info. Another question, would I put 3 or 4 drapes on this window

You could put two at each end or one at each end and one in the middle. Either works and depends on the look you want. I'd probably put one at each end and one in the middle if it were my window.

It depends on the rod. If there is a support bracket in the middle you won't be able to place a curtain between the two windows.
