I have a dying orange tree, fairly large around 15 feet high, in the shade of a redwood tree. I could take it out, but I am playing with the idea of having some vine or other climbing plant - that flowers profusely - crawl up the tree. It would be a nice way for that tree to end its life, acting as a trellis for some other plant.

What are some plants that would crawl up the tree, produce a profuse bloom, and have moderate or sparse water requirements? I do not want a ton of maintenance to train the vine, if possible. I have the option to raise the plant in a container next to the tree if the plant does not like native California clay soil.
