Has anyone purchased a Codel entry door recently?

I am trying to decide which door manufacturer to use, Codel or Therma Tru. Has anyone purchased a Codel entry door recently?

I received a quote for the Codel with install from an authorized install company and a home depot price and a local contractor who has done work for me before. The price of install from authorized dealer is the same price as the door. My local contractor would charge about a third of the price of the door.

Trying to decide if i really need to pay the extra $$ for an authorized company to install. Also, if Codel is a good value. Apparently these doors arrive with least amount of damage.

Thanks for any direction on this.

i could have written this question myself. This is my exact experience, trying to decide between Home Depot (expensive!) and an independent licensed door installer. And between Codel and Therma tru. What did you decide?

I would not use any box store, especially for an install. If you must use one of those brands it would be TT in my opinion but from a real lumberyard or dealer, never a box store.

Our local store (windows and doors) sells and recommends Codel. Any reason you would go with TT instead?

More familiar with them, Codel is not available in my area, I should have mentioned that as part of my reasoning in the initial reply. Personally I would only go with TT with limited choices. I would personally only recommend Provia, Homeguard, or HMI. TT is a complete crap shoot depending on the millwork vendor and the place you are ordering from. And from all appearances by the list of dealers on their website Codel is distributed the same way.

I ended up totally going a different way. I went with Pella, fingers crossed. I am choosing a double door entry, TT had only a White or Bronze Astragal. Since i want a black door with glass, i was not going to pay for a pre-painted door only to have to paint the Astragal.

I went with a custom order Codel door in Cinnamon. Expect a loong lead time! I ordered my door from Home Depot in Dec 2021. Arrived Feb 2022 custom built and stained in Tacoma. Installers were not available and had to wait another month while door sat in garage which sucked.

Build quality and feel is excellent. I purchased a $200+ Thermatrue fiberglass door off the shelf for my garage entrance. This $2k+ fiberglass door is almost 3x the weight. The packaging was much better than Thermatrue so there was no damage during delivery. There were some dark smudges that might be staining overspray near the top where the insulation hits the door but not noticeable when door is closed. The peep hole was not necessary as the obscured glass is still peekable.

The installation trim details could have been improved. The height of the exterior trip sits below my siding depth...a tad sloppy.

Overall, I'm happy with the product.
