Likely, as you currently have it in full sun and that sounds like it could be sun scorch, particularly if it's mostly the top leaves that get the most sun exposure. Pictures would help.

F&I is notoriously hard to grow. I have one I've nursed along for 8 years. It's in very good soil with dappled light with no tree root competition. It's still quite small. Try re siting it to a more protected environment. That's all I got.

I'm west of Chicago and have tried growing F&I in many different locations, soil types and light (sun) conditions. Have never had much luck!

It does seem to like sun, just not in the middle of the day. Is there a spot where it could get morning and late afternoon sun?

I have lost half my tags I believe this is my Fire and Ice. I notice a few rust spots on some of the leaves and can't recall that happening before. Hope it is not a sign of it's demise . I do believe I have several by my wood shed that I got as tiny plants at a nursery that was getting rig of the plants for the year but will have to check tomorrow in the morning. This gets fish pond water every time it is cleaned so is on steroids and possibly the secret for success Getting too dark for pictures now

I have always found fire and ice hard to grow. IMHO, I found Patriot, which in my mind looks similar and have had great success with it-good luck!!

Concur with all below: hard to grow/slow to grow. Check for tree root competition. Mine is going on 8 years old - still smallish but at least stable now after relocating it away from Norway maple. Just relocated the tiny living fragment of what is left of my Minuteman yesterday. I have come to the conclusion that some hostas will NOT survive the extreme competition of a Norway maple for water. Keeping them alive with constant watering for years as they dwindle in size "is no way to go through life, son" (my favorite line from Animal House about being fat, drunk, and stupid).

I agree that it is likely getting too much sun. Even though it’s on the “sun tolerant list”, from 1-4 can be the hottest part of the afternoon. Most hosta that are sun tolerant, do well in early morning to early afternoon sun. Also, Fire & Ice is not a large hosta, it’s listed as medium (15X22 inches). I have had mine for some time now. It’s in shade and does just fine. For me it has not been difficult to grow.

My fire and ice is about the same size it was when I bought it about 8 years ago. I would not buy it again.

Now I will have to go look for the fire and Ice. I have patriot fire and ice and loyalist. Those one drive me crazy as they are so much alike According to the tag from the garden center the ones I have by my wood shed are marked Fire and Ice. I wonder if these were marked wrong too? Please excuse the vines , I had some winterkill on my English ivy and haven't cleaned it all up yet. I have to widen it as the hosta all got really large in this area where the roof waters them and very regularly this year. debra these are my fire and ice

Tsugajunkie I do know it is definitely not First Frost as you stated . I have a couple of them and they are huge and stay beautiful for the whole season and grow like mad. First frost is one of my favorite to take photos of

Almosthooked, I think those top three pictures are Fire & Ice. The last picture isn’t. It has that ruffled edge and I know I have seen the hosta but can’t be sure of a name. Whirlwind? Colored Hulk? Guess I am not much help there!

Yup the last ones are probably Whirlwind as I do have them too. Seeing the pictures together they are different for sure. That is a good guess . Don't have Colored Hulk but sounds interesting

I enjoy Fire and Ice in my garden and don’t mind that it stays small. It doesn’t require much space.
