Show off your Rainforest Sunrise!!

Mine doesn't have leaves with a reliable small rim of dark green. That's what the photos online show. My Rainforest Sunrise has leaves that are creative with where they put the green. I even have one with "thumbs."

Here are some pics of weirdo leaves.

Leaves growing from a single bud do not necessarily match each other.

I see this frequently. Bilateral symmetry is not their thing.

    Here's the whole clump.

    Unstable? Or playfully creative?

Here's a detail of my clump.

Here's the leaf with "thumbs." I've never looked for this feature until someone here posted about thumbs. I wonder if this plant has been producing these all along and I missed it.

I thought all these asymmetrical leaf colorations were the norm with Rainforest Sunrise. I was so convinced that this was the case that I thought this bud producing yellow leaves with the thinnest of green rims was a sport, so I separated it and planned to see if it was stable.

But now I realize it looks like the images of Rainforest Sunrise I see everywhere online. It's got the normal leaf's expression.

What do your Rainforest Sunrises look like?

I wish I did have one, but can only admire at this point. I love seeing unusual leaf coloration or sporting....I just find it interesting. The leaf thumbs are new to me also. I will have to look at my own plants when I’m able to. Has the hosta always been “different“ in this way? Does it change from year to year.....how many leaves are affected I mean?

To me the piece you separated looks somewhat different from the HL pics. The border is very thin and the color is so beautifully yellow......hmmmmmm. It will be interesting to see how they both continue to grow. Thanks for sharing!! :-)

It is pretty. Enjoy the show. In the next 1-2 years, you may have an eye or two that are sports. I am updating this to say that mine looks similar to Erin W's. I do not have the half-green leaves that you do, but the width and pattern of the green margin is variable on mine, too.

I think it is just how it is.

Never noticed thumbs on mine but it is unique feature. Have had mine since 2012 but this year something is making small holes in the leaves and some rust spots too

Here is my Rainforest Sunrise, one of my oldest and slowest hostas. I have asked a lot of it to establish itself so close to the tree and along a busy path (hence the guard rail). It is pretty, though.

My best Walmart find hosta - I think I paid $3.47 AND it was big enough when I bought it to give part of it to a friend. Her's is doing well as well.

And bonus, it does well underneath a Norway maple and Redbud.
