you might have to install those horizontally. (where two doors meet). you can do both ways

or, have you cabinet guy build them a routed out area to fit them

How’s the hardware on the doors? Are they soft closing?

We are about a month away from installing our Omega Jax kitchen cabinets and I am also having a hard time deciding on drawer pulls, etc. Linda and rdash (and anyone else with Jax cabinets), I’d love to find out what you chose for your hardware.

M, we are 3 weeks from install and I haven't made any decisions on hardware. To be honest, I haven't even looked. I wanted simple and barely there, but my husband absolutely refuses to route out each door/drawer (I dont blame him), and I also fear that these may not be the best fit for our aging fingers/hands. Do you have any contenders that you can share?

I also wanted the finger pulls but my husband isn’t a fan. And thinking about the future, I agree that the finger pulls wouldn’t be that friendly for our aging hands.

I’ve attached an inspiration photo. I’ll probably end up ordering a couple of handles that look like these to see how they look and feel.

How is the quality of the Jax so far? Leaning towards it in quarter sawn oak

We actually decided to have Amish custom made cabinets similar to Jax. We still havent moved in yet. Just picked up hardware today.

Linda any reason in particular on why you passed on the Jax? So far it’s been the lowest quote I’ve gotten by far for similar quarter sawn white oak skinny rail cabinents

Just a FYI- Because of a current lumber shortage, prices are sky rocketing and I know Omega had a price increase earlier this month as other cabinets manufacturer are also having per my Designer. So depending when you got your quote, it may not be current... And cabinet makers including custom may be having a rough time getting lumber right now, too. I placed my Jax order at the end of March with a tentative delivery date of 10 weeks. Omega has yet to commit to any delivery date yet. Oh and if anyone is interested, apparently there is now a shortage of drywall and drywall supplies, too.

Our previous kitchen was Amish made and after 20 years of hard use, they were in mint condition, we just wanted a change in style. Therefore, we went with same company because of history and felt comfortable on what quality we could expect vs the unknown with Jax being relatively new. Our cost was still less with the route we chose.

@Matt Imme Our Jax cabinets just went in. The drawers and doors still needs adjusting etc. We have quarter sawn white oak in natural in the perimeter and custom color green on maple in the island. Here's what the kitchen looks like now. My early reviews of the Jax: It looks great. The cabinets seem sturdy plywood and the maple/oak veneers look great. The finish on the oak seems to be pretty good but a couple of the drawer fronts have to be replaced because they had some issues. (Our GC was able to get the cabinet shop to order replacements with no issue.) Some cons: The veneers are very thin. I don't know how they compare to other brands though. The custom paint isn't as even as I'd like near the edges of panels. The edges of the green panels are almost white in places. I'm not sure if this is the best they could do or if they can easily replace these. I'll talk to my GC about it.

FYI, the bottoms of the upper cabinets are completely flat and finished but the flatness might influence what kind of under cabinet lighting you might choose.

The glass cabinets are regular shaker since you can't have glass inside such a skinny shaker. The glass isn't in those doors yet.

Your picture shows that you bought face frame cabinets. M’s picture shows that they bought frameless cabinets. The reveals for each of these styles is different. The face frame cabinets will have a 1/4” reveal that leaves plenty of room for the edge pulls you are considering. A frameless cabinet has tighter reveals that could cause issues with adding the thickness of an edge pull.

One exception to what I wrote is when two doors on the came cabinet box meet. That vertical reveal is only 1/8” so installing edge pulls may need to be on the bottom or top edge. In some instances you could adjust the doors a little farther apart to allow for a vertical placement of the pull.

@M hi! i love these Omega jax cabinets everyone is talking about. ive been looking for contemporary skinny shaker faces. does jax only make the doors? did you have to get someone to custom make the boxes to match to jax?

Can someone tell me the colors of the upper and lower cabinets? i love the thin shaker look but dont know these colors. thanks

Have your cabinet maker specify TaylorCraft Cabinet Door Company's 3/4" Shaker doors!

The door has a true 3/4" frame and accepts standard hardware.

Ella - I can’t tag you for some reason - hope you see this.

If you are asking about the photo posted at the top of this thread - the kitchen has white oak bottom cabinets with a “natural stain” - there are different ways that this can be accomplished by someone who is knowledgeable about stains (I’ve read posts from people on Houzz about using a tiny bit of white paint with a clear water based polyurethane - oil based poly will cause a yellow tone). They cut is either quarter sawn or rift sawn = more expensive than plain sawn wood.

I can’t guess what shade of white paint was used for the upper cabinets. You can select a white that has either a cool or warm undertone.

It has been a few years however, I'm checking with you to see how you are liking your cabinets. I am considering Jax mini shaker as well. My first choice is walnut but there are some truly horrendous examples of natural walnut so may reconsider for quarter sawn Oak.

Would also love recommendations for hardware (edge pulls, regular handles, etc) and opinions on walnut vs oak (quarter sawn). If you have photos to share that would be icing on the cake!

Still loving our cabinets! No regrets on our quarter sawn oak. The veneers are holding up well but we don’t have kids and our dogs are not counter surfers or anything. I’m happy with our drawer handles. There’s noticeable wear and tear on the drawer pull handles but not on the cabinets.
