A lovely room. But your heating bill will go up during the winter without a fireplace insert.

That fire place insert didn’t work correctly, and it was so very small it was impossible to keep a fire going in it.

To me, it seems "naked" without a cover. Perhaps a cover or other piece of fireplace accessory would help? The updated ceiling looks great, are you updating the fireplace floor trim as well? Maybe some new sconces; otherwise it really looks great!

Nic Bro, I have candles in the fire place now that are on a timer and come on at night. Once it’s fire season I will put a log holder in there and add a screen. We did replace the sconces. I’m very much wanting to change out the floor trim. It’s on my very, very long and never ending list of projects....🤪

Nice job. But! I would remove the two chairs blocking the view of the fireplace and replace with a long, deep upholstered bench. That way you will see your fireplace when sitting facing it.

Brown Dog good suggestion. I will add it to my list :) I will say, however, when you are actually in the room and either seated on the sofa or one of the brown chairs you still have a pretty good view to fireplace due to the open slats in the chair backs and also the size of the room. Bench would be very nice, tho.

What a lovely room.

Photos looking back towards the built in seating area and cabinets around the dining table (sun is going down, so a bit dark). I found the old wood backed seat cushions buried deep in my basement (huzzah!) and reupholstered them in a celadon green color. The built ins used to be painted an awful 80’s hunter green (see older pictures). I opted to paint them walnut so they would blend in with the walls—-as much as I wanted to go light I was concerned it would cut the room up and look out of place. I did paint the back wall of the inside of the cabinets celadon green for a subtle touch of color that matches the cushions as well as other accents I have around the room. Now I need to pick a new chandelier....
