I don’t know if this is your style of furniture or if the designer made the choices, but yes - the furniture is bulky. The lines of the pieces are not streamlined and more streamlined would work better in your space.

This is a two seater not three seater but it is fairly streamlined style plus a great clearance price right now. Comes in a bunch of colors.

The black furniture was too heavy-looking. The striped chairs clash with the fireplace.
Everything is too beige and too cream. You need some color. If you like the black or cream or beige, add window treatments in color, a couple of chairs in color, pillows in color, wood tables, area rugs with color, a lamp with a colorful ceramic base. Three pieces of furniture or accent pieces in color can help liven up a room. Art in any medium: oil paint on canvas, watercolor, originals or prints, even some posters and framed photos can qualify as art. An area rug in several colors can suggest colors for accents. Colorful window treatments can do the same. You can find inexpensive but nice framed pictures at art supply stores, craft stores, new or used furniture stores, garage sales, thrift shops.

And btw, you don’t need sofa because of fireplace. Both pics I posted with four chair setup have fireplaces. But if you want a sofa and chairs, that can work, just has to be more streamlined on furniture.

Hi. I am so sorry. I took this photo directly from your ideabook. The furniture chosen is too traditional and bulky for your taste. I presume you showed him/her your ideas?

This is why I do 3d renderings for my clients. I also choose furniture with them, not for them. (unless they want me to choose for them). They know exactly what the room will look like. Floor planning is critical!!!

You need furniture with legs/light and airy. Okay to add some blues also, but this feels heavy.

The tv is a major consideration. I don't like the console angled like that.

TV options:

-over the fireplace seems too high (unless you lie down watching tv and that is not a problem for you. It would not be my first choice

-left of bar is best place. You could have 4 swivel chairs if tv not used that often or do an L configuration around the fireplace.

Finally, when you get the chance, I'd paint the bar white and update the mantle.

Oh, that is all good. I think the darker porch furniture could look good with lighter pillows and against lighter tones in the living room. I'd pull in some of that navy in the living room.

I guess that is what they were trying to do with the chairs in the living room, but I am not liking the stripes against the fireplace.

Hi. Here is the way to look at this. You have the white area for furniture. This is a "walk-through" room. The entire area to the left is your walkway. Then, you need a walkway to the sunroom. Finally, your need space around the bar.

I am estimating the space you have is about 120" x 150".

How important is the tv in the room?

It will be fine. You’ll get a couple of streamlined pieces that will work better in this room. And you have options. Sofa and chairs or the four chair setup.

That’s the only tv in the house

Furniture is bland and does not create a lakeside, airy feel. This is a beautiful room/adjacent sunroom; should be light and comfortable with soft colors and some rustic pieces. Be sure to tie in both rooms, which wasn’t done. Look for inspiration rooms and show your designer so he/she can get closer to lakeside appropriate and then start to select pieces and an appropriate layout.

Ideas: sectional, TV on console next to wet bar and paint both to match - I think color below would work with your walls.

Okay, with the only tv in the house, how many people would be watching at one time?

Are those people your immediate family or family and guests?

Do you want a sofa facing the tv or are you okay with chairs?

Notes: I rarely recommend a sectional, but for this room, it might be a consideration.

Honestly I don’t think many will watch tv. The teenagers never do and my husband may watch sports if they ever come back. I don’t usually love sectionals but was thinking maybe a chaise on the bar side?

TV above fireplace would work if you want recliners (can find high leg recliners with a small footprint) or if you lie on a sofa. Otherwise, you are in chiropractor territory.

For over the fireplace tv placement, there are mounts to mitigate height issues.

This mount would lower tv to eye level for comfortable viewing. There is also a motorized option. My concern with it is the damage that might be done to the fireplace stone with installing this. You would have to check with company to see what could be done to minimize any damage.

The other option, which is more attractive to me since I would not want to damage stone - is to mount tv from the ceiling. In that case, tv is lowered from the ceiling. I don’t know if Dynamic Mounting has a ceiling mount, too. If they do, I would get their’s. If not I would check out the various companies; there are any number of vendors for ceiling mounts.

A benefit for your that not that much tv viewing is going on. This would keep the room light and airy and no site lines to the sunroom broken. (Color of sofa and console only so you can see against the white.

These measurements are close, but not exact. Sofa is 110" long. I did not add tables and lamps, but gives you the general idea.

Hope this helps. A good floor plan that considers how people live, traffic flow, site lines is the first thing that needs to happen in design. If you don't have that, the rest will go wrong.

A straight console does not look good angled in a corner. Just doesn't look clean. You can get the tv hung on an articulating arm, which would allow you to pull it out when viewing and flat against the wall otherwise.

Or.......you could buy a corner tv unit.

You should have an overall plan for all before purchasing any furniture.

I'd add stunning art over the fireplace. Make sure that piece has a large pattern, as the fireplace stone is busy.

This house is lovely and has three wonderful seating areas within steps of each other. With the required walkways, I would not attempt three rooms with sofa and chair combos so close together. I’d keep the sunroom furniture, consider a sectional and chair combo for tv room, and either a four chair and an ottoman for the lake room, or make the entire lake room a dining area with comfy seating for games and family fun. The circulation space would be great for a table in there.

There is a slider in the corner that looks out but definitely not the focal point. We don’t use that fireplace room much. We go to the fun porch. I’m thinking in winter we use that room more

Oh in that case I think cdr’s layout is perfect.

The large black furniture is too big and too dark for that small space. I would have light- colored wicker furniture with colorful cushions for that space.
The big room is very big and will need a lot of furniture. Perhaps the black furniture should be used in there with the upholstered fabric chairs.

CDR is spot on about needing functional plan and has created a great layout for the space. The only thing I might consider is swapping the side of the chaise on the sectional.

A streamlined L shaped sectional measured very well for the space would be a much more useful sectional piece. Sofa with chaise only seats three people, except one person gets to stretch out. An L that wraps around this way would make more sense.

How much are you committed to the bar? You could demo it and put the TV on that wall. The TV mounted above a console would give you a place to display pictures and decorative accents. A small L-shaped sectional would work perfectly with that arraignment. It looks like there is no other place for a TV except above the fireplace and will be at an uncomfortable angle to view. It would also ruin the look of the beautiful stone. You say you don’t watch much TV, but someday you might. Don’t you ever have movie night? GOOD LUCK‼️

As I said on that other room post, I think the designer had furniture placement right with sofa anchored on the wall facing the beautiful lake views. And I suggested using a screen behind sofa to mitigate short wall, etc.

The chairs are too big. Sofa is fine. Smaller scaled chairs would work better and navy could be nice to complement navy welting on sofa.

But chairs don’t have to be navy. But they do need to be more streamlined than current chairs.

Other than that, another option for that room could also be four chairs with center cocktail table or ottoman. But the easiest thing might just be to switch out the two chairs. The sofa is nice, and can work in that room.

Okay. A lot of rooms with similar functions? Best to first define the function of rooms..... prior to choosing furniture.

A lot of people (understandably) have the idea that interior designing is about choosing furniture and decor. Yes, that is part of it. But, only one part.

Laying out an overall cohesive plan, based on how the homeowner lives, what his needs are, what he likes, etc., is the first step.

Although I would need more information, from the info I have, it looks like the fireplace room serves as more of an entryway, greeting place. So, the bar in there may not be a bad idea. (Albeit, right now the bar feels out of place in both the finish and the size). I see a lot of non-bar items on it.

So, your designer should be looking at the overall situation of how you live and go from there.
