Who have you tried?

Will the vendor for your new fridge take it away? They will probably charge you for it but probably worth it.

I have called 4 junk hauling business but no one takes it. The vendor will take it away, but we must take it out of housing/cabinet, and disconnect water and power. Taking it out of housing is what I am worried about... ugh.

Looking for other ways to get more money back? Earn $50 to recycle your refrigerator or freezer through New Jersey's Clean Energy Appliance Recycling program. Call 1-866-657-6278, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. or go to the NJ Clean Energy Program site to schedule a pickup. Customers are also eligible for an additional $25 for each room air conditioner or dehumidifier recycled during the same appointment.

To qualify:

• You must own the appliance(s) and be a PSE&G customer.
• The pick-up address must match the service address on your account, and you must provide safe, clear access for the removal team.
• Eligible appliances include operational refrigerators and freezers between 10 and 30 cubic feet.
• You may recycle a maximum of two units per year.

Can you hire an appliance repair person to remove it from the cabinet and disconnect the water?

We have a huge top compressor Sub Zero as well, built in.

Ours just slides out from the cabinets, though. Because it's built in, it takes some doing because the tolerances between the side of the cabinet and the side of the fridge are about nil, but it still just slides out.

Are you sure yours doesn't?

Thanks everyone for chiming in!. Apparently nobody wants to touch a subzeor except for authorized dealership ($$$). We watched some video on youtube, it's involving taking off all the doors, bottom freezer fronts, etc. I don't think it will happen, but I don't want a almost 500lb of a fridge topple over my husband when lowering the wheel and drag it out.

Brickman House, did you have to remove all the doors, etc, before sliding it out? Thanks!

Nobody wants to do it because of one reason. Liability. And the ones covering their behinds are $$$. One scratch on a wall or floor and they could be sued. Are you getting a new floor? That could help your chances in finding someone to do it!
