Strawberries and seaweed

This year and last I have laid seaweed between the strawberry plants so as to gradually improve the soil they are growing in.
After a slow start the plants picked up and the leaves became quite large which gave me optimism for the forthcoming crop.
The actual crop of fruit though is quite disappointing.
There are lots of small fruits among them and not many large ones
I have a small patch which I have not mulched with seaweed. The plants are "scrawnier" but the fruit is better proportionately.
So I am wondering ,is the seaweed overly beneficial to the foliage of the strawberries and not beneficial enough to the actual fruit?
