When I didn’t have a headboard at my first apartment, and wanted to sit up, I used one very firm queen size pillow with a sham and put it behind my sleeping pillow (as you show here). So you really don’t need more than two pillows on each side. Or, you could do king size for the bolster pillows.

When I made the bed, the firm pillow with sham was put in front for looks. You should be able to find inexpensive ones at any of the chain stores, or Amazon, Overstock, etc.

I agree with Jinx. Get one very firm king size pillow and use that behind the pillows.

I would still recommend a headboard as well the pillows. It wouldn’t take up more than 5” or so of the depth of the room. You have the height for one. It will make the room feel much more finished. Also, if it’s upholstered, it’s another supportive layer.

Does anyone like this burlap bed skirt for my bed?

I like it in more neutral light color, no yellow-ish. some kind of oatmeal color.If you use it, then you should bring something to tie up with. Some burlap/natural decor/accents. Some pillows, wall art, rattan trays...etc

What does everyone think of these pillows?

I would get 2-3 large square pillows, chose an accent color, and put them at the top. Then add 3-5 throw pillows in accent colors (maybe choose 2 colors) to put in the front, and a throw in one of those colors :)

I have this same situation in one of my guest rooms. A couple of firm euros shame size pillows can serve as good backrests in leu of a headboard.
