A floor plan is needed, to scale all windows, doorways marked and all measurements clearly labelled. What you posted is useless.

Definitely provide a measured floor plan so people can offer suggestions.

Depending on window locations and needs, that 5x10' space could be a mudroom or pantry. Mudroom would be my preference - we have one between kitchen and garden and it is much appreciated. All a mudroom really needs is a bench on one wall (with space for boots underneath) and hooks on the other for coats.

I have attached a more detailed floor plan, however, its important to note that we will be tearing down the wall that borders the backyard (to expand the kitchen) so that entire wall will be new, and we can place windows anywhere in that wall; also the door has some wiggle room.

Yes, I believe it could, however, the door on the side of the laundry leads to a bedroom that a nanny uses to care for our kids when we go to work.

You could move the door from the kitchen to the laundry around to the narrow part of the kitchen and then turn that into a butlers pantry of sorts. That gives you a longer second wall for counter/cabinets to make more of a galley style kitchen in the larger section.

Oops, sorry. Based on the definition of mudroom, we probably don't need it.

Will be using standard appliances, normally 1 person at the kitchen, definitely need a pantry. Seating in the kitchen isn't a must have.

Thanx for the layouts...my idea was more conceptual but since it is not indicated exactly where the nanny’s room is located..or shaped ...i think entrance from kitchen and nanny’s room in a corner would leave the most space available for use

I like that one ,too...probably do not need door from kitchen...and the pantry will be really efficient ..only need to have upper cabinet depth for pantry as base cabinets take too much room and are to deep for easy access ...it can be floor to ceiling...we have one on our kitchen

Im using the design with the laundry room in the bottom.

My next question is if I should give more space to the laundry room or kitchen. Right now the laundry room would be 10'6" x 5'3".

Yes...that is plenty of room...we have the same layout and find it perfect to use the laundry room efficiently for storage...re-cycle..and trash cans..that are all so handy to the kitchen that they do not need to take valuable kitchen space...will try another sketch to demonstrate

I built a narrow shelf...touching top of washer and dryer ..for all laundry products..household cleaners etc....we live in country so do not have weekly re-cycle options...base cabinetry would work for you under the sink...leaving the option open to not have a door to the laundry room...adds to easy access and no wasted space for door

This all relies on the cabs on the back wall

Also wanted to mention that this room is and excellent spot for overflow when entertaining..put all the dirty dishes ..etc
