Vapor, I did grow William Baffin. Honestly, my z 3, was really too cold for WB and actually quite a few of the Canadians. My Alaska never heated up. The Canadian prairies heat up much more than my Alaskan location did. I keep looking for a friend in Alaska because my Quadra was beautiful there but small. Mad gallica, I think, has the best Quadra and my Alaskan friend has never been able to find it. Only problem is Peter does Fall shipping which is not what one would want in Alaska. So I would not know how tall Quadra would get for you. I think it would need support. My season was so short I could not much comment on rebloom. The roses I grew there were species, rugosa and more Canadian Heritage roses like Corn Hill sells. All in all, location is everything in gardening. I think it is great Peter sells some special ones. My home in Alaska was too cold for the "Communist Lilacs" Peter sells to bloom. I grew them, but they wouldn't bloom. I've ordered them from him for here now, and I hope to see blooms next Spring.

Not all of Alaska is z 3. My friend has a better microclimate.

Thank you for that detailed right up! I have considered Quadra since mad suggested it the first year I posted here. But I still don't have it yet! Why? I have a perfect spot for a huge monster on my lower level in fact many huge monsters! So, I might ask Peter about a different delivery date. He has been open to it recently.

Sheila and Vapor, do the Canadian roses take shade? A friend on the same street as mine grows the spectacular 'William Baffin', but it is exposed to full sun. I still remember seeing 'Quadra' in one of mad_gallica's comments that took my breath away. I recall Cynthia from Nebraska also showed a wonderful photo of her 'Quadra'. I would grow either one in a heartbeat but I ran out of the sunny spots. All I have left for such large roses is 2-3 hours of full sun divided between morning and evening.

I'm sure they would prefer full sun in your area, but everything else might too. I'd give it a try vesfl. Another one I love is Martin Frobisher. This rose bloomed in Alaska in the worst spot and was beautiful.

Thank you, Sheila. You are right, it's worth a try and I don't have any hybrid rugosa so Martin Frobisher can be a nice choice. I am a huge admirer of what Felicitas Svejda did with her Explorer and other series.
