Hosta Identification help #2

I've another NOID Hosta that I'm wondering if anyone can identify. It's a big one. At least 10 years old, but likely much older. Looks slightly blue-ish in spring, and has purple flowers. This year it's got some sunburn for the first time, as tree branches were trimmed in the spring.

I left a part of its neighbours in the pic, so you can compare leaf sizes.

No idea of its origin, but it was one of only 2 hostas here when the house was bought 10 years ago. The one in the back left was the other one that was here, and it is much smaller than my green giant.

You can't see the really bad sunburn, as it's now hidden by flowers. But one leaf got pretty crispy. :(

Compare to Blue Angel. Can you show us a closer view of the leaves.

i thought of blue angel ... but would expect it to be much bigger in 10 plus years ... but it could be ...compare flowers at library ... but note one seems to have white flowers.. and one tinged purple ... go figure ....

something about the leaf length vs width that triggered me thinking that ...

since there are only 20 million big blue hosta.. frankly ... i doubt it can be named.. but for sure.. its fun trying ...

I’d go with Blue Angel as flower color can vary, I took a division off my original plant and it has nearly pure white flowers whereas the original has that lavender tint. Then there’s that distinctive narrow “tongue” down the middle of the leaf and no corrugation.

I thought Blue Angel at first, but BA has a white flower that is very distinctive when it emerges. It loo like a star at on point. This isn’t the best picture to show that shape, but shows the flower as white with faint lavender when closely inspected

    Here's a closeup.

It's been pretty much the same size the entire 10 years, in fact, some years it's looked smaller than the year before. It's not in a great location, as it's in hard, packed down soil, and surrounded by tree roots. So maybe some of that has prevented it from getting bigger.

For the longest while, I thought the flowers were white. Then I realized there was a purple tinge. This year, however, there's a definitely purple to them. Maybe because it's getting more sun?

Yup yup yup...... those are the flowers of BA. Yours just seem to have more pigmentation than mine. Mine look white, but have a pale lavender stripe that you can only see very up close. Also the shape of the leaf with that mucronate tip in pic above seals the deal for me. It’s a Blue Angel. How big is yours? It looks good sized to me. Mine is between 5-6 feet and has stayed that size for a long time. But it is on the front corner of my lot under a King Crimson Maple tree and a smaller Locust tree (city owned) so it definitely has root competition.

Great to finally know my "big guy's". name 😊 Its flowers were more white with just a tinge of purple till this year. I'll have to keep an eye in future years and see if it resorts back to its whiter version. Not sure how big it it. Probably at least 4 feet. Will take a tape measure out sometime and post back with the actual dimensions.

djacobz568sewi: I measured my Blue Angel today, and it's about 5 feet wide.
