I have never heard of SHP before and had to do a bit of spot research. Crude protein is listed at 10%, which makes them inferior in terms of nitrogen-equivalent to soybean meal (crude protein around 50%). Divide CP roughly by 7 (a bit less, but close enough) for the nitrogen level.

So these are a bit over 1% nitrogen, while soybean meal would be around 7% nitrogen. You'd have to use about five times the mass of these to get the same protein amount.

Oh, you can use them. Think of them as cracked corn in terms of feeding--not much, but good for soil conditioning. If cheap, these would be great to transform a soil to a more organic state and feed the worms.

If you're just looking to feed the lawn, then no--send them to the cousin. But check first, I'm not sure if goats can eat them. I mean, goats can eat almost anything, but you know what I mean.

They are around $10/50# bag. I have a standard 1/4 acre so if it would take more than 3 bags to do any good, I won't bother with it. I like the idea of it, but have already promised them as goat feed. From what we have found, they are suitable for goats, like you said, they will probably eat the bag as well as they eat anything.
