Should I fix my old maytag dryer?

I have a Maytag dependable care dryer that needs a new heating element. Should I replace it or fix it? It is probably 15 years old.

Yes, fix it. I have a Dependable Care LDE9824 purchased December 1994. It's still going strong. Your dryer is the last of the real Maytags as Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006.

PTDugan, cite the serial number if you want to confirm the age more accurately.

If you are DIYing the repair, suggest examining the belt, idler, drum rollers and front support slides. They may very well be OK. Clean-up of any accumulated lint inside the cabinet. You might consider obtaining a replacement belt, idler parts and drum rollers to have on-hand for future use.
