Small office space in home

Hello everyone!

Due to some minor flooding in our basement, and discussion with my wife, I have the opportunity to claim a small space in the house as my office/man-cave/homework room. The room itself is 9' 3" by 7' 8". I have attached an image of the room. There are no windows, just an entryway in the corner. Also included are a few pictures of the room (pardon the mess). The pictures might be of little help due to my lack of photography skills.

Now, to the intent. I have very little experience designing rooms, especially ones with this constraint. I am interested in making this into a room that is light and calming enough to drown four kids and allow me to focus on homework/work/mellowing out. I bow to the mercy of fellow Houzz-ers to help. I have an idea of a corner floating desk/counter with shelves above. The coloring, I am leaning toward something bright, but I don't want the space to be like an Easter egg. The smaller of the walls (the one the door is on) is being discussed as a full chalkboard wall.

For arrangement, the floating desk is going on the wall that the door is leaning on right now and on the wall to the immediate right. Some shelves will hang above that and on the other wall. The left wall will have a bookshelf and shelves hung on it. That is all that there is space for (I think, but am totally open to some input).

From a lost guy asking for help, I thank all who contribute or browse and give it a notion of thought. :)
