1 tip is not to plant all your seeds, but to reserve some for backup, if things don't go so well the first time.

Yes. That's one of the places where I found the August planting recommendation for tomatoes, eggplants, and carrots. But it doesn't say when in August. There's a lot of difference in weather and sunlight between early and late August here.

I always presume the 1st of the month.

I would wait on carrots. I have the best luck growing them in big containers or raised beds.
