Well the pieces are quite dramatic

You could put a shelf on both sides of the bed
Styled the same color as the dressers
With the same edge if possible
That are attached to the bed and the dressers
To look builtin

You could swing the bench on one side
And use the shelf on the other

You could pop your bed on a platform
Matching the color or contrasting natural wood
like Mahogany
The platform should be short of the dressers
And the dressers moved to adjoin the bed

Of course your getting much larger lamps?

Feel you need something simple now if bedsides are needed. Simple tray stands, or open legged tables. When placing them, see if you can get space between each element so the wall isn't crowded. Agree that tall lamps would be needed to connect the height of the drawer units and bed head. Again a simple design, I wouldn't consider any fringed or pleated shades. A tall narrow stand, over a low heavy design.

What do you think about doing a pair of simple wood shelves (maybe 18" deep?), at nightstand height, with curly-swirly metal brackets supporting them?

Two much drama, too dark, too gray for me. I would move one dresser somewhere and get a smaller nightstand instead.

Hmmm. Looks a bit Goth. You could have done two bachelor chests and had just as much storage and it would have made so much more sense. You had the room.

More contrast would help ..bright white bedding....chrome or brass bedside tables with glass tops...tall ...narrow lamps with a few crystal drops perhaps?

Maybe even white walls so the furniture pops from the contrast...

May be it is good idea to go white, not such a dull look.
