The air being pushed out is NOT re-circulated indoor air. (Although some model may allow 10% of the indoor air to go out, but you can tape it if you want, or cut the hole bigger to allow more indoor air to go out)

Can you please explain further? The previous poster said it was recirculated indoor air, and every website I have looked at says it is. The intake hose is only being used to intake outside air to "cool" the coils. What exactly is your theory on where the air is coming from that is blowing into my room? When the AC is on, it has a recirculation symbol lighted up.

Cima Locert probably is referencing the "air being pushed out" as the exhaust hose to the outdoors, not the cool air blowing into the room, which of course is indoor air recirculated through the unit.

My grandmother never could understand how window units worked. She thought they pulled in outside air which made the house dusty.

Sorry about the confusing. here is what I am trying to say: Dual hose model (inside air are completely separated from outside air, like central air split system, only recirculates inside air, inside air is never pushed out, except that 10%) . Single hose model (some of the inside air got pushed outside, air will coming in from like under the door, window cracks, bathroom fan, etc..

If you are thinking to buy one, I suggest Dual hose model, because if you don't like the dual hose model, simply remove the intake hose, it becomes a single hose model immediately, so you can run either way.

Thank you. I already own a dual hose model, and was just making sure that the air being blown into my room is not coming from outside. The "Intake" part can fool you into thinking it is intaking air from outside to blow into your home, but now I understand it is only intaking air from outside to "cool" the machine itself, and not to blow into your house.

Window units may have a "fresh air" function which pulls in and mixes a tiny bit of outside air with the recirculated indoor cooled air. Portable units don't have that function.

Commercial A/C systems for movie theaters, shopping malls, churches, etc. may also intake some outside/fresh air.

Automobile air conditioners pull all of the cooled air in from outside (except in Max/recirculation mode) ... which is why strong and immediate effects occur when passing by a source of noxious odor such as a skunk or smoke from a fire.
