DA Princess Anne Rose Question

So I just planted my first DA Princess Anne rose earlier this month. While it’s already putting out new blooms, the blooms are very short lived they open very quickly and then shatter... sometimes only lasting a day. Is this just the habit of this particular Rose. The pics I see from other growers and from DA’s website are so lovely. But if the blooms open quickly and shatter within a day or two of opening... then maybe this isn’t the right rose for me. I live near the coast where we get a nice afternoon breeze almost everyday. The question for those of you who grow this rose... Do your Princess Anne roses behave like this???... or do you think it’s only behaving like this because it’s newly planted. All my other roses don’t have an issue maintaining their blooms in the breeze/wind... even my iceberg roses... which are the ones most inclined to shatter. How many days do your blooms last on a mature bush?

Ann I am not certain how long the blooms last here because I never count the days. Now david Austin has very long bloom life but I do not think they last a single day. Princess Anne always have so many blooms than even if they blew fast I can’t tell because new blooms are always present (again single day sounds extreme). The plant being too young is definitely a possibility, but also maybe difference in humidity I am not certain. I hope others can comment more on it.

Thank you Dianela for taking the time to share your experience. I’m gonna continue to keep a close eye on the bush and report back. I’m really hoping she will get better to holding onto her blooms with age... Your Princess Anne Roses are so breath taking. But once her bloom is fully opened, I’m lucky if I get two solid days to enjoy the bloom before... poof!... shatters to the ground. Maybe once she becomes more prolific at blooming I won’t notice because there will be so many blooms I won’t even care. This is a real learning experience I’m getting with growing my first DA rose. Thank you for taking the time to educate me.

This is the second year I have Princess Anne. The blooms on
mine last pretty long for an Austin, probably on average 5 - 6 days. Even
during its first year it lasted quite a few days and never shattered within a
day. I have strong wind here in my SF Bay micro-climate, very often between 15
    - 20 mph during the spring and summer, and I have to say that Princess Anne's
blooms stay pretty well. Also the branches are strong and don't break as easily
as PAoK. Perhaps give it some time and see if it will improve with age. Another
question is whether you got the right rose. From the picture it is hard for me
to tell. My Princess Anne can age to almost a purple color after a few days.

Rose Lai: I’ve had 4 blooms on my new Princess Anne rose so far and none of them have lasted anywhere close to 4-5 days once fully open. I find that the buds open really quickly and Once it’s fully open I get maybe 2 days if I’m lucky before it goes poof! I don’t even get to see it change to the lighter soft violet pink color before it goes poof!

Hi Ann, your pictures looked like Princess Anne to me. Mine is in a lot of shade, planted in between 2 Scepter'd Isle standard trees, but it still blooms well. It is a great rose.

Perhaps it will just take time before the bloom will sustain for you. I have quite a few roses which I planted in multiple. I do notice that even for the same type of rose planted in the same general location, individually their performance can vary.

Ann, new roses take time to settle in. Your rose just needs to mature.

Found this thread by searching for "Princess Anne rose fries in the sun". My plant is two years old and its blooms cannot stand the sun. They immediately fry. It's not even hot out yet! I'm wondering if I need to give it a shady spot.

Caroline your peincess Anne should get better as it matures. I had several princess Anne planted in all day sun here in Alabama without issues.

Yes Artist I sold that place and moved a couple of miles away. I will be moving again in a couple of months to what hopefully will be my forever home. When I moved to my current location I only took with me my absolute healthier varieties which eliminated most Austins. I will make a post showing my current garden since I am planning on selling it in the future.
