I love it! It looks bright, airy and open. The rugs you need will be a perfect transition--look for the perfect design to connect the house with your furniture. If you order one, be sure to get it from a site that offers free returns. One suggestion is to order a small size that will be easy to repackage for return, just to see if you like the colors and desisn. Another idea is to order from a big box store so you can just return it to the actual store.

I think you can mix modern and traditional quite successfully. One way is to get very modern lighting.

Just bring it. Seriously -- sounds like you have a very cool aesthetic already going on in your furnishings, and coupled with the gorgeous backdrop of your new home, you'll create a unique and quite lovely eclectic environment. Oh, and rugs are the party -- the truly FUN part of decor, in my opinion. Go a little wild there. It'll look fab.

Beautiful house. New light fixtures will be an excellent bridge for what you want to accomplish.

MCM is going to be the hard one but you can certainly achieve modern or Scandinavian with the right combinations.

- If budget allows, strip flooring

- In room off staircase, I would paint walls and coffered ceiling white and add a new chandelier.

- Actually would paint all of the first floor white

- Stairs could be updated when budget allows

Once you move in and see your furniture and rugs etc in place, you’ll get a sense of what stands out and changes you want to do asap and things that can wait. In the meantime, start searching for inspiration pictures.

If you want ceiling fans, I would do all white ones with three blades in a more contemporary style, like this one. I have this Casablanca fan in three bedrooms with white ceilings and I barely notice them. (I used a shorter rod so it’s closer to the ceiling.)
