mid century ranch exterior ideas

What can we do to modernize/update? We have a MCM interior.

We plan to landscape (just had a large maple removed--stump will come out soon). Assume it's best to save that for a new thread.

Note: there is brick on the lower left. Thank you!

First question is what is your budget? Does it include just paint, new siding, new garage door, changes or additions? Are you planning on pulling out all the old landscaping and starting over? Your current garage door isn't a MCM style so if you're wanting to get the MCM look on the exterior then I would change that. Can't see your front door so I don't know whether that's a MCM door or not. I would:

    1) Remove the storm door. If you need one then make it a full glass style so you can see the front door.

    2) Re-do the siding by either painting or changing it.

    3) Change the railing on the porch to something more MCM in style.

More information on what you plan on doing would result in better suggestions.

Thank you, great suggestions! I was thinking of trying to work with the siding, but am not opposed to painting or replacing it. It's aluminum--can that be painted? Yes, will be starting over with landscaping. I'll give your site a look-thanks!

It would be great to know the budget. For sure I would replace the railings, the house number (get rid of the lettering on the overhang), the mailbox, outside lights, storm door, and garage door. Add dark trim. If it is in the budget, I'd replace the bay window with a large single window. Landscape has the power to really drive in the look you seek. Here are some images for ideas...

Aluminum siding paints up beautifully- Sherwin Williams has paints designed to be applied directly to the aluminum with no primer (I don't work for SW but I owned a large office building with lots of faded aluminum trim...)

Budget is important, as is some examples of what you like...

That said I would address the front door and garage door first, as well as painting the siding.

Also please replant the maple (though maybe further from the house and driveway). Shade trees are so important in our built environment and we lose more all the time.

What Sammie J said. Follow that plan and it will be amazing. Good luck!

Sammi J, do you mean dark trim around windows as well? Black?

    Patricia, I love that walkway.

for budget, we are thinking 30 grand. Also need to landscape back. So, figuring out what will give us the biggest bang for buck is appreciated!
