I have this rug and I LOVE it. Would look nice with the existing wood, and the tones of the current paintings. Suggest some pillows with pattern, like stripes and some texture, like velvet. Pick up on the blues, pinkish rusts and creams. Get a big enough rug so that both the sofa and the side chair are sitting on the edges - don't make the rug an 'island'. I think it would really brighten up the space!

Also, I'd replace the faux branches with a real plant, I think a little greenery would look nice in there.
