Dining Room decor help!

I’m having trouble decorating my dining room. I have a very heavy looking dark rectangular table in contrast to a light tile and wall color. The table sits in the middle of the room. I know I need chairs with a higher back (not sure of color though) and having trouble filling the wall space and adding a
few pieces to fill the corners of the rooms. The plant in this picture is no longer in this room. Any ideas on wall decor or adding a sideboard/buffet or color combinations for chairs would be so helpful!

I agree that you need different chairs. You could go with something upholstered to add more softness to the room.

Do you want to add a rug?

    Is the art staying?

If you are adding a side board, you could get that first. Since the table is dark, I’d consider a lighter tone for thar piece.

Have you seen anything you like? What is your style?

Thank you for the chair suggestions. I would love a rug but won’t get one for a few years as I have two small kids and this is our main dining area. The art piece on the larger wall does not need to stay, but I would like to keep the one at the head of the table. It’s currently centered on the table and not the wall, I don’t know which would look better. My style is mainly modern.

Change your light bulbs. It looks like they are clear and are throwing glare and shadow on the walls. Frosted would be better.

It’s a nice room. The large art would work better on side wall. You need different chandelier and chairs. I would paint your walls a deeper color. I will put some ideas together for you.

Oversized painting on the left wall. Blue chairs as suggested above. Lightly patterned tan curtains to match walls (if they are tan). No fake plant in corner. Once you have a big art work, colorful chairs, and curtains, your table will look amazing and you won't need anything else in your dining room.

I’d lean towards making room feel casual, airy, and bright for your family. There are so many directions you could head and suggest looking for inspiration pictures that appeal to you and then narrow down the components you are drawn to.

I think your chairs are fine and will be complimented by the look below, using a black sideboard to work with darkness of table and provide impact against subdued floor and wall color. Add lighter and larger art for an infusion of soft color and you could bring back your plant for warmth. Accessorize side board with pottery and table with a large bowl.

A large black chandelier would make a big difference and on back wall add a series of prints. I’d also shorten drapes so they aren’t puddled and you could change rod to a thick black one - Amazon has some nice ones at good prices.

You need different chairs. Add more lights.

Large original artworks on the left wall will be an excellent addition that gives character to any space. Good luck and enjoy decor !
