overwintering potted lavender

This year I started English lavender from seeds and they have grown really well. No flowers as expected, but from 6 or so seeds in an 8in plastic pot, all have grown very well over the summer so far and how gotten to be 6-10in tall above the top of the pot.

So... what should I do with it once the temp drops? I do plan to put it in the ground next year. I am also planning to move it into a bigger pot - probably terra cotta. Is this ok for lavender? Should I leave it outside or move it in over the winter if I want it to eventually be an in-ground plant?

Thanks!
