I would keep the center island white. If the kitchen were larger with higher ceilings a darker colored island would work but not with the size kitchen you have. I would keep everything white.

We plan to remove existing back splash. Putting in some color, but want something lasting. Glass tile maybe with some red in it Any ideas?

Have you considered painting the cabinets gray, and keeping the island white? It looks like your backsplash and floor tile would go really well with many tones of gray. Accent islands are a fantastic way to add visual interest to the kitchen. Will you keep the countertops? If you're thinking of changing you could even make the island ebony and go with a white quartze composite countertop... Chic & Elegant!

Here's a pic of grey cabinets as suggested by Pro Skill Construction. Another option would be shifting to more of a blue-grey, like Whirlpool by Benjamin Moore in pic 2. Could do the island in the darker tone - Slate Blue, also by BM. Of course, this would have to work with the general color scheme on the rest of the main floor. I don't know about putting in red accents with your tile, even though it would look pretty with that first grey in the pics. It would be best to stay neutral with the tile colors. Is installing quartz countertops an option, as suggested?

Looking at your tile, I don't think you necessarily need to change it at all.

If it were me, I would remove the short wall on the island and drop a butcher block counter top on it.;)

We are looking into getting rid of the bump up on the island. It will make it look bigger. Thanks for all the comments. Will seriously look into the gray scheme .we painted same cabinetry in bathroom dark gray, this was last years Reno

an all white kitchen would look great! you already have the island white, so why not go all the way?!

I would go with a classic white/cream like the island. Then if you wanted to add a color do that only on the island. That way when that trendy grey becomes passé it will be less to repaint. Your tile looks to have warm tone so cream would better than grey anyway. Adding color in the backsplash would brighten the white cabinets. Just make sure the countertops work with the tile in color and scale of any pattern. You could go with a nice neutral for tile and use linens and decor for those accent colors which could chance be seasons.
As for the bump up of the bar, you might think about the view from the adjoining room. Do you really want to see all of the kitchen when messy?

The island bump up actually does not face out to the living room but the fridge, would be no problem getting rid of it. I like the idea of white/ cream color. Much food for thought. Thanks all
