If you want it to cost less, buy from IKEA.

If you want better quality than that, it’s either Scherr’s, Conestoga from The Cabinet Joint, or Barker. Barker Modern might run a little less than Barker.

It may be a small space, but cabinets are never a small ticket item.

Ikea unfortunately doesn’t have the colors I want and they don’t come unfinished. I’ll try barker modern and see how it goes.

@eam44 - How's it going out there? Any decisions yet? My architect is working on construction drawings so things will be moving along in the not too distant future. Now my daughter may want a new kitchen. Her husband is very handy, so I think assembly will be in his wheel house. It seems you are recommending Scherr above Barker. I'm just looking into this for her to see what might be her best option. She currently has cherry cabinets that were put in 25 years ago by the previous owners. She wants painted white, with a few changes (more drawer bases, etc.) Small kitchen L about 8 x 12 - There is a movable island in the center which can stay or she can put in a 5 - 6 ft regular one. Thoughts?

Finishing any unfinished cabinets is the big fly in the ointment. It’s very very difficult for most to DIY reproduce the toughness and quality of a factory finish. Someone needs to own an air compressor, sprayer , and be experienced in refinishing/finishing to get good results. Otherwise, buying from the factory is what needs to happen.

I believe these are already finished/painted using conversion varnish.

If you’re buying the finished version, it’s not really a budget project, or any savings. The reliance on the DIY labor to assemble and finish is what creates value. As long as you don’t put a price on the hours of DIY labor. You can buy already assembled cabinets for the same price. Check out Kemper cabinets.

Cabinet Joint's cabinets are frame, not frameless. Correct? I am looking for frameless.
