Master bedroom wall help

Hello,
We’ve been in our home over two years and I still haven’t decided on how to finish our bedroom wall behind our bed. It feels so unfinished to me. Initially, we had planned to do a board and batten type wall incorporating the three windows, however, once we purchased our higher headboard, we felt that a lot of the board and batten would be covered. I don’t know if we should still trim them out or leave them be. They are east facing windows so we have remote controlled roller shades on them.
I am currently thinking that wallpaper/grasscloth may be the way to go, but I am stuck with what to do there... so many options. I really like a more serene feel to our room, but do not want a too light of wallpaper. I would really appreciate some thoughts and ideas on this wall. Here is the wall, we have 12’ ceilings. I’ve also included two ideas I’ve marked for wallpaper... have not seen them in person. Thank you for any thoughts, ideas and suggestions!

Thank you for the reply, Patricia! So you think paint is enough? Regarding the bedding, I didn’t want white, white and I’m not sure I want something really busy, but I do understand the need for some contrast somewhere.

You have the start of a very nice masculine/feminine bedroom. I assume the rug extends into an adjoining room, but is causing some visual lopsidedness. Would you consider turning it so it fills more of this area and is centered in it? The chests are a bit tall and the lamps too dainty. Chunky tables do better with chunky lamps, but I'd still go for feminine feeling material. If it were my room, I would simply leave the windows as they are so they look uniform from the outside, but i would cover this side so as to paint, wallpaper or upholster right over them and just eliminate the problem. If you leave the windows exposed, I would remove the mirrors; there are too many squares and rectangles except for the tiny lamps.

I did not know that about chunky lamps/tables... good information. I don’t have a problem taking the mirrors down and quite honestly, would love to change the lamps, as well. There is a sitting area off to the left of our bed, but can change the orientation of that.

This is another angle of the room.

Would you show the room when you take the mirrors down please ?

I’m not a pro, but there is a a beautiful purple color in your rug that should be used. Maybe a throw on the bed? Or the bench gets recovered in that color? The ottoman? The all-neutral coloring needs some pizzazz. I love that purple!

I would just like to see the rug centered with the bed. if there isn't room without it hitting the baseboard on the right, maybe it should be turned.

I want my bedroom to evoke feeling of relaxation and happiness or satisfaction and even at almost 60 years old - I want a touch of sexy. I don't ever quite feel like a 10 anymore, but I want to feel good about myself when I lay under my blankets, so I choose bedding with colors that look good on me. I want the woes of the day to be lifted from my shoulders and I want to wake to colors that start my day with a feeling of joy.

Your palette is very neutral, safe and a bit dull. It wouldn't help me lay my worries aside.

I would add color through the bedding and choose a color for the wall that complements the bedding and area rug and contrasts with the headboard and windows.

Personally I don't care for the mirrors behind the lamps.

The wide view of your bedroom is lovely. Agree with bringing in that purple from your rug, ditching mirrors, more substantive lamps, centering the rug. I would do something to that wall to try and make those windows disappear as they are a stylistic distraction.

It’s a beautiful bedroom, you’ve achieved serene. I agree no wallpaper - your walls are not set up correctly it will look messy IMO. The mirrors are too small, I have mirrors above my night stands but they are much taller and balance out the room more. Sorry I don’t have a pic of the whole room right now but you can see the height of them.

Decoenthusiaste, thank you for the images and suggestions. We’re going to remove mirrors, rotate the rug, find new lamps and a new ottoman. You can’t see in the photo, but we have two swivel chairs that I would like a larger ottoman for. We’re heading out of town tomorrow so I’m going to try to tackle the mirrors anyway before we leave. If I get that done, I’ll repost. Thank you everyone for the help and suggestions... it always helps to get another perspective ( or more) on these things.

A vote for removing the mirrors and purple wall color behind the bed at least...not sure if the whole room can take it? And turn the rug!

I agree, remove the mirrors (love them, but taller and thinner, but you don’t have the space height-wise to go taller, and too many squares). I would leave the lamps for now, as they might pop nicely if you paint that wall the purple from the rug. Turning the rug sounds like a good idea. And incorporate some of the purple and greys in the duvet and/or some solid cushions and pillows. I love your room, it just needs a little something more than all the neutrals on that wall.

If you paint that wall, those little windows will pop out at you; I think leaving that color be helps them be background rather than focal point. The mirrors removed, larger lamps (I would bring home returnable lamps to try), pulling a color from your beautiful rug as a throw and/or in a pillow might be all you need. Good luck!

I like everybody's suggestions for your bedroom but want add one thing- with a neutral room you need something to differentiate the similar colors and that's texture. You need a big cozy throw for the end of the bed and possibly throw pillow for the other end- maybe fur or something shiny. Or these things could bring up the purple. It will be lovely- post picture of your changes!
