What to do with this foyer??

The coat closet is to the right of the door when entering the home. Horrible design. Once past the stairs the foyer opens up and the dining room is to the left. I can’t figure out what rug to use here? If I do a runner it’s off centered from the door and will be way to narrow once it hits the open foyer just past the stairs...a runner placed horizontally just in front of the door looks pretty stupid too. Any suggestions would help. I do plan on placing a small table or bench just inside the door to the left and then I have an awkward open area just past the stairs, before entering the living room. I’ll post another picture.

I would do a rectangle in the area by the door. One with a nice pattern. Then do another in the other area where the foyer opens up. They don't have to match, but they should coordinate.

Actually, a horizontal area rug which follows that small horizontal space would be perfect! Be sure that it does not fill the entire floor so you should be able to see that area rug framed by flooring all around its perimeter. We cannot see your style of decor or colours which would help select some suggestions for area rugs, but the space is actually very beautiful. On the wall section to the right of the door in this image, you could have a mirror above your table or picture frame with a a small table lamp and/or plant. Your table could have a small drawer for storage of something useful and be sure it has legs that allow your air duct to remain uncovered. It would be helpful to see the other walls in the entry in case placement of your table would be better on the wall opposite your closet door, but I cannot tell from this picture.

    My two cents worth.

I will give input when you are able to post more photos and give us a sense of the ceiling height and lighting. Very pretty home so should be even better with a few additional touches.

Here are more photos from the the living room view. As far as colors/style.... we pulled up all the floor and are doing Shaw LVP through-out. Every room had a different floor when we bought the house, literally...every single room. Lol. I’m doing a nice medium walnut color, wide planks. Walls will be BM White Dove and j will definitely be changing out the light fixture, AFTER the electrician centers it. I guess at this point I’m just wondering about placement of the rugs. It just looks odd to me because of the staircase in front of the door.

Probably just a 4x5-6' at front door and then a long runner will be all you need. I would live with it a while to see what you need. A runner might just be a tripping hazard, so probably need to test it out once the new flooring is in. With LVP, you will just be using a swiffer probably, so having a bunch of rugs will be a nuisance I think. I took up my runner and I have Engineered woods, but the runner just made sweeping more bothersome. I do have a Roumba and if you don't, you might want to invest in one of those. Just depends on how you will use that front entrance probably.
