I wouldn't do track lights in that kitchen. you could do flush mount lights w/more bulbs,

but why can't you change them to canned lights and add a few extra?

I would LOVE to redo a full lighting concept, but that has to wait at least 2-3 years, its going to be a big expensive and MESSY project, and I want to do it right...so I just need something to work with what I have in the meantime lol... Do you think its better to go flush mount, or pendant style?

I’m also torn about the quartzite lol...I hate to not use it, it was about $1000 to make the piece, so my wallet feels obligated to use it lol BUT I want to do this right, so if it doesn’t work, so be it lol

Great idea Sue, but that was a single piece I picked up on a whim, a one-of-a-kind lol...I am not committed to it, per se, it was a good price, and I just had the builder bulb in at the time ha ha

anna,,,how is adding a few more lights (recessed) expensive and messy? at the most maybe 600-800 bucks for 2-3 more canned lights. what's there now can easily be switched to retro fit canned lights, and the others can be piggy backed on those circuits. just make a few holes , fish the wire through, and install the cans. Literally less than 2 hours work.

for now, go with a flush or semi flush, with multiple LED bulbs. you could get another 200 watts of light per fixture if you like. (or like 3 bulbs at 60W each)

Is the quartzite diff from your island? if it's a completely other type of stone, I don't know about throwing another pattern into that mix

Maybe you could save the piece and use it for something else? a vanity, a table ?

if you must use it, then use the white, hand made look, longer subway tiles. so something similar to them. I think HD, Wayfair, and Tilebar, all carry this tile. Newport Polished (also, 'Ivy Hill) in a white it's a 2x10

The whole electrical in the ceiling has to be re-done, the ceiling has to be dropped, and re-drywalled, we didn’t know until our electrical contractor was in, but at that point most of the kitchen was almost together, so we didn’t want to have to rip it apart again...this is a remodel of an older home, so there is a lot of bad old stuff we have been having to work with...its been a pain because everything we think is simple, has been overly complicated! The gas line for the stove was a total nightmare..but that’s another story lol...Anyways the whole dilemma started when I was trying to get our electrical contractor to put a recessed system in, that was the original intention... I like the bubble glass option you had at the start, do you think that will give me enough light for now?

I think any of the semi flush features w/more than 2 bulbs, 60W-80W each, will be enough

if you use the LED bulbs (get the Daylight ones) they use less juice. if you have a fixture that says 60W only, each bulb, you could actually use a 75W or a 100 of the LED. it will be plenty bright in there.

I like the seeded glass semi flush fixture too

Wow! Some great options! I love the herringbone, but I already have herringbone floors, I would be worried its too much? To answer the question, the quartzite for the stove accent is the same as the island countertop, from the same slab..it’s basically from the cut out of the L shape :)

Also I do love the 2x10 tiles, and that glossy handmade white is gorgeous!

Consult an electrician to find about adding additional lighting. Two fixtures doesn’t seem like enough for the size of the kitchen. You need two or three lights over the island plus perhaps recessed lighting for general lighting.
