Remodeling The Old House Design Dilemma

We have a 30 year old home, open floor plan with a lot of old oak wood going on. We converted the dining room into a den. I don’t like how there is no privacy and you can see the mess. We need to update the whole room. It needs to be painted new fixtures and a lot of help. Any ideas on closing the space or giving some privacy? Ideas on decorating the space?

You could put up french doors (requires construction of course)

or you could do a version of that with drapery tie backs. Here's some very bad examples of that (couldn't find good ones)

You could add some screening on each side to close the opening but with the beautiful wood trim, it would have to be something that blends
