I'm finally getting started piecing

After a long hiatus, I'm finally starting to piece Compelling Women. Four down, 26 to go. I finally got the seam allowances figured out so that I'm not loosing my points. I may have to remake the upper left one, but I'll wait to see how they all look when I have 30 completed. I may just leave it too. It's the most complicated 8.5" block that I've made - 43 pieces. I've made others with more pieces, but they were much larger blocks. I have all the pieces cut and in sandwich bags. That was a job!

Thanks, everyone. It's slow going. Each blocks takes about an hour or so to piece. Of course it would be faster if I weren't binge-watching Poldark on PBS at the same time.

They look great, Lois! I think you are a much more exacting piecer than I am. :) I'm inclined to say, "That point isn't perfect, but oh well!"

This is going to be a beautiful quilt. I can understand after all that work, you want it to be right. Now that you got the seam right, the rest should be fine. Good luck.

A lot of pieces for an 8.5" block but you've done a great job with those itty bitty 1.5" base squares. lol I don't think you'll have a problem with those points, especially after it's quilted. This one will be a treasure.

On my screen, it looks grey. Is it green? Maybe I need to adjust my screen if I can.

They are greens, but mostly greyish greens, kind of sage. That’s why I had so much trouble finding fabric that I was happy with. They are all what I would call reproduction, or civil war, fabrics, so that limited my choices too. Also, the colors look greener in real life than they do in the photo.

This is a close-up of the border fabric I started working with. I tried not to get too matchy-matchy with the other fabrics, which is a tendency I fight all the time. At the same time, I didn't want the quilt to lose its more subtle, darker look either. I don't have the correct words to describe the different facets of color, but I know them when I see them. (I think it may be called saturation.)
