Design Dilemma Fireplaces

Fireplace refacing - to wrap or not to wrap

I am considering refacing my current fireplace with stone. We want to go halfway up but the wall wraps around so it wouldn't be a stone face that is flush to a wall...do we stone the wrap/sidewall or just the face? You see the side wall from many vantage points including when you walk into the house.

We did a granite on our fireplace and initially I was just going to leave drywall on the sides. My husband convinced me we needed granite on both sides and I am glad we did it. We used a leathered finish granite and added built ins and I am very happy with the way they finished the edges with a virtually invisible seam. We have a vent at the top of the stone to better circulate the heat in our room and so we could mount our tv and avoid any heat damage.
