No walk-in closet? We usually don't see bedrooms with so many casement pieces in the room. That's a lot of drawers. I only use my drawers for lingerie, underwear, scarves, and gloves. Everything else goes on a hanger.

2 good size nightstands and one long dresser would be great in the room. Is there any possibility of a purge anytime soon?

I was kind of thinking of an upholstery bed too, and I like the idea of a small sofa settee at the end of the bed, The room is 13.5' x 17.5' ~ notarially that small, but smaller than our last home. We are now empty nesters and rather than re-do the homein which we raised the kids, we moved to get a downstairs MBR and a much newer open concept home.

BeverlyFL, Yes! I agree too many cased pieces ~ but at least they are nice pieces! :< ) I may be able to pare down at some point, but not substantially right now. I have a substantial collection of costume & nice jewelry (much of it inherited) that takes up quite a bit of dresser space. We do have a walk in closet and California Closets is coming to re-do that in mid September. Hopefully that will help!

just a clarifying question, are you wanting to change the entire feel of the room, while keeping all existing furniture? do you want to change rug and bedding too? said another way, what else stays besides the furniture? you have a very nice room and really like your rug...

I love a traditional decor, and you are basically on the right track.

The tall piece in which you place your sweaters is lovely.

I have just a few suggestions.

Since there is that large soffitt, I don't think that a crown molding would look right in that room.

I like your carpet, and you have cleverly picked up the lipstick/pomegranate deep pink in the throw at the end of the bed, pillow shams, and that deep pink and the green in your striped chair.

I don't think the chest of drawers at the foot of the bed belongs there, it is not wide enough and therefore out of proportion.

You can put an upholstered bench such as the one you have under the window, or a chest (many people store linens in it, and put the extra pillows and throw blanket from their bed in it when they go to sleep, and you can put an upholstered cushion over the chest, too.

You haven't said if you want to change the curtains or not. I can't tell what color the curtains are.

Assuming you don't want to change the curtains, and that they are a cream or off-white color, I would pump up the volume on them by adding a trim along their sides.

Look on line at the very best trim shops such as Scalamandre and see what you like the best (forget about price) and then go to the place that sell trim near you and find something that comes closest to what you like that you can afford.

I like either a ribbon trim or a trim with pom-poms, with the predominant color the sage green that is in your carpet. If you want to add even a little more formality you can have a silky tie back with a multi-color long pompom with sage green and the pomegranate deep pink and other colors.

Because you have so much wood furniture, I would avoid a wood headboard and do a fabric headboard in the same color as your bedspread, whether that is white or off white. Ditto for the foot board.

You can recover your bench in a fabric print of small (not tiny) size picking up the colors of your rug. It can be floral or geometric.

Using the same fabric, make pillow shams for large Euro-size pillows for your bed. These are either 26 x 26 inches or 28 x 28 inches. Also, a throw pillow for the striped chair.

Please find a fabric in the same pomegranate pink as the throw blanket (after it has been washed) and use that as the seam welting for the throw pillows and the bench cushion. It can be solid or a mostly pink geometric with the other colors in it.

I like the wall paint color to be sage green, and the tint is up to you. (That is how dark or light.) I prefer not too dark, I like matching the green of the carpet. Celery green is nice too. But these are just words. My sage green is someone else's avocado or olive. You need to actually see the swatches and try some samples.

It looks like there is not enough room to get out of bed on the dresser side? Can you move the nightstand closer to the wall on the other side and shift everything over?

Also, I would find a different piece of artwork for over the bed that is wider.

I would definitely get a chandelier and put it on a dimmer and get rid of the lamps on both dressers.

Keep the lamps for both bedside tables, unless you want wall attached lamps which work just as well and give you more space on your bedside table and look very nice too. And the other advantage is you don't have to worry about knocking the lamp over, either!

That chair looks lonely. If you two sit and talk in the bedroom, is there space for another chair if you move the bench to the foot of the bed and find another place for that chest of drawers?

If that chair is just used to put on shoes or for one of you to read, why not think about getting a footstool. For more durability, you might want one covered in leather or there are marvelous vintage ones in needlepoint.

One more thing- how much of the year do you both wear sweaters?

Have you tried those vacuum bags?

Maybe you can use those bags and really condense the space your sweaters take up, and hide them under the bed?

Also, you know how they have really clever kitchen drawer organizers that are bi-level and slide over each other to make the most of drawer space?

Perhaps you can find jewelry organizers that work the same way so that half the drawer depth is not wasted space. Or just use clear kitchen drawer organizers and line them with foam core or cardboard covered with felt or velvet or if you wear silver jewelry kenized® anti-tarnish cloth.

Your master bedroom looks pretty spacious. You do have a lot of furniture which is probably making it feel smaller than it really is. I like drawer space and I have two dressers in mine (one wide and one tall and narrow) so I can understand the desire. Would you consider parting with the chest of drawers at the foot of the bed? Or moving it to another room? I think the other pieces are working ok but that one seems out of place since it's taller than the bed.

How about an upholstered bed to break up the wood?

I would probably replace the matching mirror with something more sleek and contemporary. I would also be inclined to update the dressers with new handles.

I have plenty of p[laces for the little chest at the foot of the bed. It is a skinny little piece, so lots of possibilities! I could also consider it for a nightstand.

Never occurred to me to put fringe or detail on the curtains, but I love the idea! I will look at Scalamandre for inspiration and ignore the price! (You made me laugh, and you are sooo right!)

I do like celery and sage green, so I will look into some paint colors along those lines.

How would you handle the tray ceiling color wise? I'm happy not to have to add molding!

The vacuum bags are gifts I give my New York City daughter and young family every year for their 900 sq ft apt. Never occurred to me to use them in my :"not postage size apt, " but great idea!!

I would leave the ceiling a lighter color, the same color as your trim, if your trim is a white or cream. That makes the room height seem taller.

Or you can paint the ceiling the same color, it is up to you.

I agree with PricklePearCactus, I am not thrilled with your mirror either. If it is not a valuable antique, I would get remove it.

If you get a very large mirror that is 2/3 to 3/4 the size of the dresser over which it is placed, then center it over the dresser. If it is smaller than that, then place the mirror to the left, and put something else to the right, such as art work or objets d/art.

I would suggest looking for a three dimensional piece such as an architectural remnant, parian plaques, hung plates or platters, items displayed on brackets.

Items can be what I've already mentioned and in addition, things that you are interested in or collect, but that are sizeable enough to be seen from a distance such as large seashells, corals, framed butterflies or moths, turtle shells, pottery, silver trophies etc.

(Try to stay away from cliches like blue and white pottery)

The mirror doesn't have to have a wood frame. You can find wonderful sizeable vintage mirrors with a gilt frame in vintage or resale shops or online sites.

People are selling and giving away that sort of thing nowadays.

Suggest a cream padded headboard/footboard and layer bedding something like in picture. Place your bench at bottom of bed and hopefully you can find a home for the chest in another bedroom in a spare room

So you don’t always have to be in bed to watch tv, I think you may have room for two chairs under the window.

New bedside lamps, chandelier, and mirror over dresser

Headboard might be high so instead of adding something above, add a set of prints over each nightstand

Why not move the dresser that is currently at the side of the bed to the foot of the bed? It might be more proportional? You could just swap it out for the little guy.
