keep the knotty pine or not?

Hi I'm redoing my dining room and I have a wall and ceiling lined with knotty pine. There's a window in the middle of the wall. My question is should I keep it and just paint the other walls or rip it out? U gotta take in effect we live in western MD a little "country" county and my house is mostly modern country decor. So what are your thoughts? Not the best picture I know but u get the idea.

given your style, I think you could totally work with it.

since you said "modern country", I think I would go monochromatic with shades of white

I would definately keep the pine! I love it! I would maybie accent the wall with a grey to keep it modern if you like grey. There are so many things you can do with grey- put it with light mustard, navy, pale pink, deep purple, black and white, just to name a few!

Thanks I had a cream color picked out for the walls it was called milk toast but maybe I'll rethink it. I just wanted something to brighten the room but who knows!

The main issue is you don't like it- personally -I agree), therefore you should remove it and start with a clean slate.

You have not mentioned your color scheme, but I would paint all the sheetrock walls white or off white and the horizontal paneling another color that works with your furnishings.

Here's a better pic of the wall and ceiling. I just discovered a wood floor beneath the carpet and I might refinish it if possible.

I have been looking and looking for a picture here on houzz to no avail. You would paint all the knotty pine one color, including your ceiling, in an accent color and then the regular walls a white. It is a terrific look and gives the effect of a canopy.

I wouldn't paint over it as it's so pretty. Maybe you can recycle it somehow, or get people who recycle housing material to come and get it.

When looking a ideas you need to pay attention to the scale of you project. Many times the exact same treatment does not look the same when the room size and lighting is changed. I think I would tear out this paneling and sheet rock the area.

Don't remove it, paint it, the wood adds a great quality to the overall effect.

Well we discovered there's no insulation behind it UGH so out it comes. Old house half assed job I guess. Gonna drywall everything we are on a limited budget. Keeping the ceiling though and yes were going to recycle it for other projects thanks for the help!

white wash the ceiling
