Why does my winter savory die in August?

I understand that winter savory is a warm weather, sun loving perennial, hardy in my zone 9b. I have tried growing it several times, but it dies suddenly toward the end of the summer. Since late March, it was in a raised bed where it got about 7 hours of sun beginning late morning. It seemed very happy this year. Then suddenly it dropped all of its leaves and died. Any ideas or advice?

Like most perennial herbs with Mediterranean origins, it is not very tolerant of high summer heat and humidity.

I agree. We have too much humidity - along with fusarium and other fungal infections.

1 herb I've managed to keep alive for many years now is sweet marjoram. It's in a large terracotta pot, which seems to help the roots stay drier. It looks like a bonsai at this point.

I move my pots around during the year too - full sun in the cooler months and afternoon shade in the hotter months.
