Pictures would be useful. But I'm generally not a fan of considering things in style or dated ... it should be about whether you like it, not whether some interior designer somewhere says it's on trend. A lot of "decorative" columns are hiding structural posts, so that's another thing to keep in mind when deciding whether to do something with them.

IMO you better find out if they are decorative, usually in a 1/2 wall they are structural often as for being dated I don’t like thme but a lot depends on your style .

I also think they add a cozy separate feel to the space..and they are an acceptable style for any decor you may chose..

You could say they add a little “charm “ to the space
