here’s a floor plan of our basement renovation. Once we took all the walls down, we discovered a post that we weren’t expecting, which has put a slight snag in our plans for how to use some of the space (we can no longer fit a ping pong table 😞). Also, we had originally planned to use the center of the space as the tv/lounge area but realized after the demo that one of the posts is in a slightly different position than we had expected. So it interferes with the placement of the seating. Actual location of the posts are highlighted in pink. We’re now debating whether to switch the placement of the media area with the crafting table (we’d have a rectangular table, not round as pictured in the drawing). My rationale for switching is that if the tv is positioned along the wall of the built in cabinetry, you can see it basically from anywhere in the basement. But my husband actually thinks it’s easier to add seating around the media area (if needed) if the tv is placed in the center of the room. Would appreciate opinions on where the media area should be. I’m also wondering if anyone has suggestions for how to wrap the two posts that are closest to each other (the ones that are at the corner of the sectional in the drawing). Should we wrap them separately? Should we wrap them together as one large rectangular column?
