I can’t answer your acorn question but because of oak wilt this is not a good time to trim oaks unless absolutely necessary. What kind of oak is it?

Good question, I have no idea. The reason I cut the oak limbs now was because they overhang into my yard, drop the acorns and then the squirrels come and dig them up and ruin the grass. I have grass seed to plant and at least I reduced the number of acorns I will have to deal with. Also, I have a thin wood area behind my house and need to get more sun back there, as the moss also takes over the grass. If I plant grass seed, and the acorns come down into the hundreds then I they will kill the grass and draw the furry little guys and gals to that area and dig them up. Hope this helps.

Yeah Bill I wasn’t sure how to interpret that ”into my yard”. If it meant from a neighbor or his tree over his lawn. Regardless, still a bad time to trim an oak.

I could be wrong....I was wrong once. ;-)

No they are my trees that are in the woods but extend into the yard behind my house. Basically, my grass area bordered by the tree area which are mine, but the limbs are extending into the yard. Hope this clarification helps, but still have learned not to cut them when I did.

looks like I have a Northern Red Oak tree, at least that is what the leaf looks like.
