I'd pick a shade of green that coordinates with your pillows (if the pillows, are, in fact, green, lol), and I'd paint the walls *and* the ceiling the same color. :-D

I'm attracted to medium and darker colors, and I think a shade or two darker than your pillows would look awesome. <3

Paint the access door the same as the wall color if you want it to disappear.

If that is the access door behind the bed, it looks very much like a headboard, and I would just leave it.

Paint it a color that you like. There is no "should" other than making it a color that harmonizes with the wood trim - which of course could also be painted.

I do always like to see a soft, subtle color on the ceiling.

I like the idea of painting the room but how about just painting one all? An accent wall where your bed is would look stunning. I also like the recommendation of a pale green that pairs with your pillows. It also looks nice with grey if you decide to update the pillows (:
