I would catch the load on a beam and take the load from a post on the right at the sheetrock cut to the far left of the landing if there is headroom, or to the right of the landing if there isn't. Of course designed for the actual load, to give you proper beam, post, and footing size.

That's not much of a support post. And, I don't think modern is an option with that design and tiny landing.

It would be nice to eliminate that post and carry any load using a beam buried in the ceiling. You're so cramped there that such a beam could not be in a visible bulkhead IMO.

Are you sure that's a support post? I think it would be odd for single 2x4s to support anything other than drywall.

Take a picture of what it is holding up.
