I have a hamper in my bathroom but don’t place anything damp inside. Have had no trouble with moisture in general but also wash the liner fairly often. Whatever you chose, be sure liner can be washed.

We also have a hamper in each bedroom, which I find makes it easier in many regards and are used far more than the one in bathroom.

Our kids each had a hamper hanging on the back of their doors. Before they started doing their own, they'd empty it into a basket and take it down to the laundry room and sort it into 3 hampers. When they were older and doing their own, clothes just stayed in the hamper till they were ready to wash it.

DH has a two small baskets in his closet and does his own laundry frequently. I have a hamper behind a chair in our bedroom. A hamper hanging on the laundry room door is for other house-type laundry.

For towels, we use them few times, wash, and hang up again.

I have a wooden hamper similar to Maureen's second pic which is in the bedroom. It's the same color as the furniture, so it's set right next to the dresser and blends right in like a piece of furniture. I also have an open woven basket in the corner for other things. Nothing wet/damp goes in either of these -- they're for clothes only. Towels/rags/wet stuff goes in the plastic laundry baskets in the laundry room.

We have hampers in each bedroom that are brought to the laundry room when needed to be washed. I wash usually at least one load every day our bedrooms and laundry are on the main floor. I love my main floor laundry it is so convienent to be able to do laundry and other things during the day with no trips up and down stairs. We are actually in our 70’s but have international students hence the extra laundry hampers. I have had alundry on all different levels and even if I was in a home with bedrooms upstairs I would still prefer a main floor laundry. I grew up with laundry on the main floor after my Dad did an addition and we had a laundry chute it was awesome.

The key here is that the laundry is upstairs and the washer is in the basement. So that's two flights of stairs. I suggest buying a couple types of squashable laundry tote baskets to test carrying up and down stairs to see what is safe and easy for you. Buy three when you find a style you like (for dark, light, colors). Then buy one laundry hamper per bedroom. Dump the full laundry hamper out on the bed, sort laundry into the laundry baskets, and take them downstairs. The laundry hampers never leave the second floor.

I always make sure everything is dry (towels/wash cloths) before placed in hamper. There's a hamper that's built in as part of cabinetry in both bathrooms. Regular clothes go in master bathroom and sheets/towels go in guest bathroom hamper. I keep a wicker hamper in master bedroom for whites. Kitchen towels/linens go in a hamper in the laundry room. Wash when certain type of load is fairly full to warrant running a load. I detest washing small loads unless absolutely necessary.

Here too...basket in each closet for dirty clothes.

Does anyone have a laundry chute any more? In our split level, it was a godsend. Previous owners had constructed a big wheeled box that sat at the end of the chute and could be wheeled to the washing machine.

In our old split level, there was a hole in the ceiling of the laundry right above the concrete double sink. The master bedroom above it was carpeted, but we thought it would be an odd spot for a chute anyway. Well, we stopped by after we sold the house and the new owner was taking up the carpet and showed us, yes, the matching trimmed-out hole in the master. He was going to close it up because, really, it was in the middle of the wall where you'd have either a bed or a chest of drawers.

I grew up in a house with a laundry chute. Every ensuite but mine had a ventilated hamper drawer built in to the vanity. We were to take our laundry to the chute as needed. But. The hamper was at the end of the hall to the back stairs that landed in the laundry, with the chute in the middle of the winder stairs. So, if we had to go that far with our laundry, we were probably doing it on our way downstairs, so we may as well just carry it all the way down.

Instead, the cabinet at the bottom of the chute became a great place to store beach towels.

I have a wood hamper in the bath, but I use it to store TP... my clothes basket lives in the spare bedroom, along with the ironing board and the space where I overwinter my citrus. It is a small house, so just a few steps away from the other two bedrooms.

We have three laundry baskets in the laundry room, so clothes come off the body and get sorted right into the right load. But we live in a smallish condo, no kids. Personally, I think it saves a lot of steps and work to just bring the laundry to where it needs to be at the start.

I have a ventilated rolling cube seat in my bathroom that acts as my dirty clothes hamper. Wet things can hang on a hook in the bathroom until they go into the hamper or directly into the sink in the laundry room.

I have a large master (well, large to me...11x10) with two closets. One of the closets has French doors with two rows of shelving to the left and an open space on the right for hanging PJs/robes. My laundry basket is is on the floor below the hanging section. As for mildew, I haven't had any problems and I've had this setup for 13 years. I usually let wet towels and washcloths dry over the side of the tub before putting them in the laundry basket. If I do put a DAMP washcloth or towel in there, I drape it over the side of the basket so it will dry.

In one of our bathrooms we have a rev a shelf pull out hamper as well.

We are renovating a 3 story house that was built in 1965. There were 2 laundry chutes from the upstairs & the main floor to the utility room in the basement (walkout) level. Design ideas to move the laundry to the main floor did not work out.

So we redesigned the utility room by enclosing the new HVAC, water heater & electrical panels in a closeted area. Changed the old concrete utility tub to a counter with a large drop in Blanco sink. The side cabinets over the large folding area catch the dirty laundry from the chutes.

My hamper is in the master bath. It is too heavy and too deep. I have a plastic hamper sitting on bricks inside the wood hamper because I can't reach the bottom. I would rather have two deep drawers that laundry baskets could fit into. We are not changing these cabinets though.

Mine is in my bathroom cabinet, and I have 2 in my laundry room.

I have two laundry rooms, one up and one down. The one up is with the living room, and bedrooms. The hamper is on that first level in the bath laundry room. The one downstairs is for washing things from the kitchen and dining room and a few hand towels. Just a basket in that laundry room.
