It was rough. I covered a few plants, all my succulents. Most are OK on hot days, but this was extreme. Tomorrow will be the same. We will run sprinklers early am.

Even my 2 plumerias wilted!

I hope they survive. Maybe you should cover them tomorrow.

This is awful!!! The worst I can remember...ever! We're having roof work done right now. That is, we were. It can/must wait!

This was yesterday afternoon, we may top it today. (Also in inland SoCal roughly 50 miles east of LA.) I ran my errands early (farmers market, farm stand, etc.) I watered deep a few days ago and am watering the potted basil and peppers on the front porch morning and evening.

Our temperature in Venice is warm, but nothing like the inland areas -- or even DTLA.

Today is supposed to be the worst for us. Fortunately I can work outside in the shade even if I'll be swinging an axe -- not very well though.

I'm watering the potted plants twice a day because the nights are even warm.

My poor camellia, almost 50 years old, so damaged. We didn’t get the green cloth on in time so the top and front are both fried

It reached 111° again today. The difference is that it stayed over 100 until past 6PM! At least tomorrow Labor Day the forecast will be under 100. The poor plants all look sad.

Afternoon in my patio on the north side of the house. It was hotter on the south side of the house.

My cape honeysuckle has some burnt dead leaves. It gets frost damage also. Apparently doesn't like the extreme temps below 35 or above 110 I get. It was up to 119 a week ago.

Some plants, like my camellia, are just not in the perfect location, and with the heat we had I’m not sure location would help a lot. I hope your honeysuckle recovers. I think my Camellia will be OK in time. Maybe you can cover your honeysuckle in extreme weather. I also have burned raphiolepis Indian Hawthorne.

I planted two much coveted magnolia trees last winter (Black Tulip and Alexandrina). They suffered burnt leaves when we had a freak heat wave earlier in the spring. They just managed to grow another batch of leaves over the summer and those are burnt now :(. One of them decided to flower? Hope there are not in death throes and pushing out one last batch of flowers before they die!
