Monarch Cocoon on my Metasequoia

I've seen them attached to my garage frame and some mesh before so I guess this isn't soo surprising. Nice to see something besides Japanese Beetles using it more than a bird for a hunting post.



And look, you can see a butterfly in there.




The cocoon was on a rooted cutting off my big tree. It's taller than me now. Is my parent tree the mama or daddy of it or is a gender neutral pronoun best? Parent?
