a couple good deep drinks thru the fall would be of benefit ...

i would add lawn spray.. but im pretty sure you dont waste money on that nonsense.. and good for you ...

I was going to say exactly (really) word for word what ken said.......really! You should see how many of mine are getting ugly. But luckily we are having days of rain so I don’t have to get out and water! As Ken says, since hostas are going into dormancy, it is good for them to be hydrated......must be a lot of work to go dormant..........lol.......they should be fine next year.

Totally agree, though it could be that you also have it in too much sun. You say the directions were to place it in sun. There are some that can take full sun but you also need to water them regularly. Most prefer morning sun and shade for the hottest part of the day or dappled sun/shade all day. I don't know where you are in Canada but here it was near or over 100 all summer with no rain.

Well I guess everyone is in agreement. Perhaps I did not water enough and also The regular fall look. But it seems to be hitting early this year I always remember hostas looking nice through September. Thanks everyone.

it reflects and retains heat on hot sunny days ... crisping the leaves.. and holding heat late into the night ... the usual recovery time ...

Chiming in on perenn.all's comment. Totally agree. And just wanted to put my oar in on the sun-tolerant hostas. I've seen so many hostas planted in full sun location that look completely ratty by July, because homeowners want a tidy, mounded look and "My neighbor has some in full sun." Ugh: bleached out if not actually edge-burnt. There are better choices for those full sun locations that stay attractive. Certain ornamental grasses are at least as wonderfully architectural. Gaillardia remains compact and colorful. Etc.

Yes, northern gardener, there are many other options for sun, but we are hosta people after all........lol.........lol
