We have an Asian/Zen style garden behind the house just outside the living room windows, and along the rear patio. It consists mostly of smaller shrubs or groundcover. Anything that flowers is in the yellow/purple color scheme. The garden itself gets afternoon sun only.

We are in zone 7.

The centerpiece of this garden was always the Harry's Walking Stick. It had grown to about 12 foot diameter and tall. We had no idea at the time, but this tree developed disease and it was too late when we realized it. It's now been cut down and the stump tore out. We're definitely looking for a replacement tree to plant either this fall or in the spring.

Anyone have some good ideas as to what could be planted in its place? What I have come up with so far as ornamental replacements:

-- another Harrys Walking Stick

-- Palo Verde tree

-- Acer Japonicum (type of Japanese Maple)

-- Stellar Pink Dogwood (compliments another dogwood in another garden bed)
-- small hydrangea tree (pink flowering)

-- Camellia Bush
