Replace entire vanity or add new counter?

Should I just purchase a new double vanity or should I just replace the top add new sinks and hardware? I was also going to paint and replace the doors with shaker style.

@Marylut this is how it’s looking currently. 😄

I would love the vanity and the shower to be the main wow factor. I love the black trimmed shower doors like you posted above. I also was thinking of a white vanity since the floor is so dark it would love a better contrast to do a white vanity. With maybe a darker stoned top.

I am going to find some things I like on Pinterest and post. I truly do appreciate you taking the time to help me !

I think we will do white subway tile for the shower. It will make the bathroom feel brighter I believe.

We are so used to seeing an overhead shower head, but a sleeker and more practical option is a handheld shower head that can move up and down on a slider bar, higher for adult guests and lower for the kids.

If you didn’t have it before, make sure the shower has wet rated, recessed lighting. For a 3x5 Shower, consider 2 lights instead of a center light. The Kelvin of the light bulb will affect the color of the white shower tiles, 2700K Is like natural sunlight and you probably want that effect.

2700K is warm, many people these days consider it too warm. 5000k is technically "sunlight" but is way too bluish for interiors. most people prefer something between 3000-4000K.

We put up 2 LED recessed lights above the shower today!!! Let me say how in love I am with them. Best choice ever. I am able to change the lighting temperature from the flip of a switch on the side of the light.

Still looking into vanities and the color I should choose since the floors are pretty dark. Going to go with white subway tile for the shower with black grout and a white shower pan for easy cleaning. Black fixtures in the shower . Next step is the vanity . What colors would go perfect with the colors I just listed?

Hurray, so happy you got 2 lights for the shower. You said you wanted a show piece shower and you got it!

I think the Autumn Wood floors will look wonderful with the white tile shower and a white vanity. Then you could do white, gray, or dark counter.

On these brown floors they put a brown rustic vanity with white counter and black faucets. Would look awesome with your floors and shower tiles and black fixtures. Produces a very different “feel“ than the above photo.

Here is a photo of a dark vanity color with floors about the same color as your Autumn Wood. What stands out is the counterto.

Not a bathroom, but they have dark brown wood floors, white cabinets, and black countertop.

It was either that blue or a white vanity. I was trying to keep maybe away from so much white I guess ☺️. I have considered a light brown vanity but I kinda don’t like the clash of different wood types and colors. But the one you have in the 2nd picture doesn’t look so bad.

Hale Navy from Benjamin Moore is a popular color for kitchen cabinets, and looks good with gold or nickel or glass cabinet pulls and if you had a white counter I think black faucets would work, too.

Truthfully, I had a hard time finding a photo of dark brown floor with brown vanity, usually Scandinavian room with dark floor and light teak vanity. Don’t think that is the look you are going for.

I don’t trust my color monitor to show true colors, but the blue vanity you posted is very attractive but manly color at the same time. A good choice for family bathroom.

You may want wait on deciding on the grout color until you have everything selected. The black could be quite strong with other selections. You may want to do some photo searching and look at subway tile with black grout and see how it is paired with other things in the room. And if those other things are like what you are thinking. You have to figure out what is going to be the star in the room and then make everything around that compliment it without taking away that elements beauty.

Can you imagine what this bathroom would look like with black grout? Rather than your eye traveling all over the room and taking in all the beautiful things, the black grout would over power the room.

    Here is the lighting 😍😍

@tedbixby the plan was to do black fixtures as well as a black framed vanity mirror kinda like the photo you posted above. The grout for the faux wood tiles would also be black. But it’s just all in my head. When we start putting more and more in things will start to come together and I might change my mind on some things of course.I posted a photo I found of faux wood tile with black grout.

Yup, the black grout makes the floor tiles look like real wood and adds a high end, stand the test of time, look. What you have in your head is coming together nicely.

Those photo shoots don’t use the same light bulb colors we usually have in our homes. I do think you need a colored wall grout. Because of the Kelvin switchable lights in your shower, I suggest you test several wall grout colors under the same lights in your shower so you end up with the stunning effect you want when the lights are on and off.

you should redesign the whole area. with the combination of navy blue and white tiles.

If the cabinets themselves are in great shape, then replacing the doors, hardware, painting & new countertops will definitely do the trick. Just be easy replacing the counters without damaging your cabinets.

The vanity is big enough to install a new counter top with a double sink. This might be the best solution if you aren't remodeling the entire bathroom.

What about a green/sage cabinet with the wooden tile floor?

I like the green sage with the wooden floor, with a light countertop. Nice color!

So we did a thing yesterday and bidded on this vanity with the top and won for a great price. Thoughts and opinions? What color top? Should we maybe paint another color? Also what tiles should we should to do match if we keep it the antique white?

It is in excellent shape! The slats on the door read relaxed, like cottage, coastal, farmhouse. This bathroom can have it’s own character but you don’t want it to feel “out of place“ in your home. Did you say the countertop is included in the bid, or do you get to choose it? If you have a choice, I suggest your next choice is the countertop granite or quartzite that looks good with the color and grain of your tile floor. After that it will be easier to pick the shower tiles and grout, and vanity color.

What do you think of the color of this vanity and counter combo with your floor and black faucets?

@marylut the counter top wasn’t included. I have to find one somewhere else. But it was still a good deal that I come out way cheaper than buying one brand new out the store. Trying to save a few bucks where I can 😁😁.

I like that combo but the cabinets are more white to me in the photo you posted so I have a hard time trying to imagine the combos. I am doing black/dark faucets I know for sure. Once we get the floors down and the cabinets possibly in maybe it will be easier to choose. I still need a shower door also 😳

That inspiration photo was in case you wanted to paint the vanity base white, to see how it would look with your original plan of black faucets, white subway tile and color grout, and white countertop. You can’t go wrong with a shade of white countertop, because it will go with any color you paint the vanity, even the dark blue you like

I like your idea of a green/sage color for the vanity. You may find a remnant at a stone yard for your counter top.

A local fabricator told me about a place near me that deals exclusively in remnants. I was able to get a remnant for a great price, additional discount for cash-and-carry. Maybe there’s a business like that near you. Ask a local fabricator if they have remnants, or know of a remnant-exclusive place.

Tile we picked today for the shower. Marble looking tile

For the shower floor, are you using a smaller companion tile to the white marble or to the autumn wood tile?

    FOLLOWING! This is so helpful!

We did a shower pan so it would be easier clean up with kids instead of scrubbing tile and grout with messy kids . Here is an update photo

Also we want another route with the cabinet. I found this one I really loved “used” but perfect condition with the faucet and mirror and marble top

I'm curious as to how wide your linen tower was? We are adding either a 24" or (my preference) an 18" wide tower in a hall bath. Did it fit linens to your liking? Aside from not having one, tell me what you liked it disliked it. Thanks!

I will be honest I am not sure how wide it was . I would guess 24” but not positive. I did like it because I could hide my couponing bath stuff in there but besides that we didn’t really use it really for towels or what not. We have a lot of other closets in our house for that storage. And we placed the towels under the main sink

I prefer the style of latest vanity for your bathroom! What happens to the first one?

I still have it. Going to post to resell 😁

Only think now I need to figure is paint color and the vanity lights

The light at the end of the tunnel! Revisit your vision and inspiration photos for vanity lights. Are you still thinking black faucet and vanity lights? Or will you mix your metals? It is easier if you paint walls before installing the toilet, but can paint around toilet and vanity if you need more time.

Thinking of going with chantilly white for the walls. 🤓

Have you checked Chantilly white next to your Autumn Wood and your shower wall tiles to make sure you like that shade of white?

I decided on white dove for the wall. Still have a long way to go but it’s getting there

Finished product 😍 we finished a few months back but forgot to post updated photos. Will add a glass door sometime this year for now we have a shower curtain .

Thanks for posting the final pics, Ashley. Looks like you chose a good shade of white paint...fresh and clean, not sterile looking. I love how everything works so wonderfully design-wise with your gorgeous Autumn floor tiles! Jealous of the double LED mood lights in shower.
